Astrology’s ancient origins

According to Luke writing in the 1st-century AD:  ‘There will be signs in the sun, and in the moon and in the stars’ – Luke 21: 25.

The Sun, Moon and Earth are all about 4.6 billion years old, so the signs were already there long before modern humans emerged about 200,000 years ago; and it was only a matter of time before the signs in the sky were discovered, investigated and turned into astrological knowledge.

The past five thousand years tell a story of human destiny being shaped by the stars and divine power.

But the first astrologers who discovered the astrological energies and provided them with character and other interpretations remain an enigma.

The first astrologers

In the beginning – although there’s no hard evidence – the first astrologers went beyond matter to explore the inner-world of astrological energies.

Driven by the desire to understand the secret laws and energies that govern a soul’s life experience and intelligence development they used their extraordinary psychic and spiritual powers, in a favorable environmental setting, to discover the hidden realm of astrological energies and forces that play a key role in a soul’s character and ability development.

These specialists in spiritual knowledge discovered the secret inner-world of zodiac signs and their ten-degree decanate sub-sections.

They placed their spiritual knowledge in the sky – tracing the symbols that picture the characteristics and developmental trends of each sign and decanate as the constellations – and there, safe from the book-burners and information savages, it’s been preserved for posterity.

The heavens are the guardians of humanity’s stellar wisdom.

In the beginning

In the ‘morning of the magicians’ the ancient Magi considered astrology an instrument not only for charting personal development, but for interpreting the human soul’s relationship to the universe and God.

To them astrology was a sacred science and they developed the famed science known as the Religion of the Soul and Stars.

But while astrology’s ancient origins cannot be precisely timed its more recent history can.

The Chaldeans, Greeks and Egyptians

Fast forward an unknown number of years and its apparent birthplace is Mesopotamia – the land between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers that’s now part of Iraq.

Here, the Chaldeans, who called the planets ‘the interpreters’ because their course and angular relationships revealed the will of God, conducted astrological research for thousands of years.

They saw astrology as the means by which God’s will could be interpreted and most of our basic astrological knowledge comes from them.

Then, from Chaldea it’s presumed to have spread to Egypt and Greece.

It was known to the Greeks in 1100BC.

Theophrastus, who succeeded Aristotle, claimed that astrology not only foretold world events but also revealed the course of a person’s life.

The Greeks believed the Egyptians invented it, but the evidence indicates that the astrological knowledge of the Chaldeans, the Greeks and the Egyptians originated in an unknown ancient world.

And thanks to the first astrologers you have a map of your soul.

You birth chart reveals your soul’s consciousness development – reason for being – human life potential – and future destiny.
