You probably move about in your body without giving much thought as to how you came to possess it, or how your soul gained the ability to construct such an amazing and complex form. Yet there is no mystery connected with the process.
Just take a look around and you can perceive nature in operation and the means by which it is made possible.
Have you ever pondered upon the problem connected with the caterpillar and the butterfly? The soul-intelligence that directs the building of the body of the caterpillar gains sufficient experience in the process that it is enabled through this knowledge, plus what it gains in contact with environment through this form, to build the vastly more complex body of the butterfly from the same substance which comprised the body of the caterpillar, which to all intents and purposes suffered physical death and disintegration.
This new structure enables the soul to gain a much wider range of experience than was possible while functioning through the body of the caterpillar and to cover more territory in a single day than could the slow-moving caterpillar during its entire lifetime.
This observation of nature at work through natural law is an experience of immense value to the sincere truth seeker. It reveals that the same law that applies to the caterpillar applies to the human soul.
Your soul did not spontaneously learn how to construct your human body any more than the soul of the caterpillar knew, without experience in building a lesser form, how to construct the more complex organism of the butterfly.
Your soul was able to construct your human form solely because of experience it gained in constructing lesser life forms. It retained from each, as memory, the knowledge so gained and the ability to carry through and manage the life processes such as assimilation, secretion, etc., without conscious direction.
Through such observations you can perceive that experience is the teacher which enables souls to progress and that without such experience there would be no consciousness and no progression of souls.
A study of the history of life and its evolutionary phases will show you that there were once many varieties of life upon Earth that are now extinct because they failed to adapt themselves to the ever-changing environmental conditions brought about by the life processes of physical Earth.
This too teaches a lesson: that the soul to continue to express life in any phase of existence must adapt itself to the exigencies of the environment in which it functions.
The penalty for failure exacted by the laws of nature which are God’s laws is physical extinction. And the same law applies to the inhabitants of any plane of expression who can, if they fail to adapt to environment, experience extinction.
And observing nature in manifestation forces the conclusion that in time the Earth too will finish its life processes and pass away, the substance undergoing disintegration and passing back into the energy fields of space.
When this takes place etheric and astral planes will in time follow this process leaving only the eternal spiritual substance, and unless there is a recognition of adaption to higher conditions than physical and astral the remaining souls will disintegrate and pass along with the other substance back into the energy fields.
This is the only way a soul can be lost.
Modern science has a rather clear-cut exposition of the progress of physical life on Earth up to and including the manlike ape, or ape-like man as you prefer. But it fails however to find the missing link because it fails to apply the basic law of physics to the problem of evolution and recognize that for every such period there must of necessity also be a period of involution.

God’s great evolutionary plan
In order to express higher states of consciousness the soul must of necessity have experiences in expressing lower states of consciousness, just as to build a higher life form it must have experience in building lower life forms.
God through nature has provided the means by which the soul can gain experience and sufficient knowledge to construct these higher forms and thus make progress through gaining increased perceptions, and after this phase to start the journey back to celestial realms and the angelic form.
In each higher phase it expresses life more vividly, gaining knowledge, experiencing pleasure and pain as it adapts to or fails to meet the conditions of the environment in which it functions.
The motivating force behind each life form is its divine ego, which is a pure scintillating spark of Deity. It has been impressed by its angelic parents with the function it is to perform in the divine plan of cosmic construction.
The ego in turn evolves twin souls and starts them out on the involutionary and evolutionary journeys through the cycle of necessity to gain such experiences and knowledge as will enable them to enter into their ultimate function as intelligent workers in the cosmic structure.
You cannot be self-centred and progress to spiritual realms.
Selfishness must be left behind, and whole-hearted, sincere work done in behalf of the cosmic whole must be undertaken and done if such spiritual heights are to be reached.
You must gain knowledge of your soul’s relationship to Deity and to all other life forms, if immortality is to be attained. By your experiences you can gain the knowledge which applied with wisdom will enable your soul to make progress up the spiral of life to angelic realms.
Experience is the teacher which you must heed in order to gain these exalted spiritual states.
Perhaps you may have realized that you are just a child going to school for the purpose of learning such lessons as will enable you, when you have completed this little grade, to advance to higher astral and spiritual realms and to become a useful citizen of the cosmos.
