Religion is a powerful influence in the life of many. It has been responsible for wars, cruelty, bigotry and fanaticism; as well as for the supreme sacrifice of giving a life to save a life, nobility in deed and ecstasy in emotion.
The thought-elements that first registered such a stupendous force had simple origins.
The pleasure and comfort a young offspring would experience in being saved from misery and death, (through the intervention at the crucial moment of a defending mother), would no doubt impress it strongly and faith in a parent’s protective powers develops.
Mr. Cherry Kearton* in his book ‘The Land of the Lion’ tells of an elephant herd ‘on the trek’ in Africa. When the huge army of leathery beasts is disturbed, sudden plunges and turns are made, and the little calves are in great danger of being trampled upon. However, the vigilant mother is ever near to protect her young.
Could we watch the herd crash through the jungle we would notice how a very small calf would confidently put its little trunk over that of its mother, very much as a human child would hold its mother’s hand.
This same author, in another chapter, gives a very fine account, of his adventure in photographing a troop of baboons. He says ‘the old leader of the troop appears to fulfill most of the duties of a tribal chief, a general in war and a judge in peace. If there is a suspicion of danger he investigates it, and it seems that all sorts of problems are brought to him by members of the troop.’ And the scene he describes at the water hole is a picture of family life, danger, leadership and protection as practiced among the baboons.
It shows so completely the point we are trying to make, that reverence, veneration and faith in leaders occurs in lower forms of life.
Every day you can see examples in your pets. Dogs admire their masters and respond to affection by constant devotion.
These thought-elements which we call religious are mapped in your birth chart by the planet, Jupiter. They express goodwill, benevolence and devotion.
Successful doctors have such elements strongly developed as do most professional men and women, including salespersons. The latter depend a great deal upon goodwill for their patronage.
Most of us think a good deal about religion. These thoughts should include goodwill, joviality, (not long, sour faces of enforced martyrdom), faith and confidence in God. Such attitudes of mind will bring into your life conditions of abundance, patronage and the favors of those with plenty.
Religious thought-elements destroy their good through excess. They then become discordant and express as fanaticism, extravagance and overeating. Diseases usually result in the form of acidosis, a certain type of diabetes, perhaps biliousness, catarrh, autotoxication, carbuncles and fatty tumors.
*Cherry Kearton (1871–1940) and his brother Richard were British naturalists and pioneers in the field of wildlife photography. They developed innovative methods to photograph animals in the wild and in 1895 published the first natural history book to be entirely illustrated by wild photographs.
Cherry later became a wildlife and news filmmaker and the Royal Geographical Society created the Cherry Kearton Medal and Award in his honor. His book ‘In the Land of the Lion’ (published in 1929) can be read online at Internet Archive.
