The planets in your chart by their sign-house locations and aspects do not map specific behaviors, moral attributes or events. Instead, they map general predispositions affecting each of the twelve departments of life indicated by the twelve houses.
It is these birth chart predispositions acting upon whatever environmental conditions are present, or can be attracted, which develop into the more specific conditions of your life.
A discordant planet in your birth chart maps a predisposition to experience mishap and misfortune. But whether this misfortune – due to unruly, misguided thought-cell activity in your unconscious mind – manifests as a physical defect, a destructive character trait or moral blemish or merely attracts difficulties into your life is not solely dependent on your birth chart predisposition but also upon your local environment.
It has been demonstrated that when people are shown pictures of bandits and gun-fighting detectives that they cannot decide who the crooks and crook-catchers are. And the birth charts of famous gun-fighting law officers and gun-fighting bandits are so similar that when they are shuffled together experienced chart analysts can’t distinguish the bandits from the officers.
This does not imply that the officers have criminal qualities. However, it does indicate, that the same qualities which give an outstanding bandit, if early environmental conditions divert their energy into a desire for law enforcement, give the best type of officer.

Hermetic astrology teaches that the birth chart of an individual suffering from one of the outstanding diseases will have powerful afflictions aka discordant aspects between certain specified planets. That’s because research has found that this particular disease is one of the ways in which a certain discordant birth chart predisposition expresses itself, and unless this affliction is present an individual is never bothered with this special disease.
Furthermore, in the case of many diseases, Hermetic astrology teaches that there will be a discordant progressed aspect to a certain planet within one degree of perfect at the time the disease first begins to cause trouble.
However, unless the indication is outstanding – with contributing factors clearly present – we cannot say, with certainty, that an individual will develop a certain disease.
In such cases we can say that there is a predisposition toward the disease, and if the individual encounters environmental conditions that favor its development, they will probably suffer from it.
It is true that heavy discords involving the first house of the birth chart often tend to express as an affliction that causes pain and suffering to the physical body; with the same heavy discord involving another house expressing as an affliction that causes difficulties with its life-matters. Yet first house discord may affect the temperament and disposition rather than the physical body.
Those ignorant of Hermetic astrology and the inner-astral-world are prone to consider all conditions of life as the sole offspring of the outer-physical-world and those with a shallow understanding are often prone to consider all the conditions of life inevitably foreshadowed by the birth chart and caused exclusively by planetary energies.
The truth is that events and conditions are not the offspring of one world alone, but are the result of the interaction between the inner-astral-plane and the outer-physical-plane. Or, from a personal perspective, your life is the result of your unconscious thought-cell activity, as mapped by your birth chart planets and energized by progressed planets, interacting with your external circumstances.
If the physical environment – parentage and home life – of child with a given birth chart favors a physical defect or its development and stimulates a desire for a moral life, they would most likely be born with or develop a physical defect and the tendency toward moral weakness would not play an important part in their life.
But if the parentage and physical environment of a child with a similar birth chart favored a vigorous and sound physique and at the same time gave much inducement to the development of immoral tendencies, they would probably have a sound body but become a criminal.
So, detailed judgments of birth chart tendencies require knowledge of the inner forces as mapped in your birth chart and the resistances offered by your environment to their various types of expression.
