The ascendant

The ascendant is the degree of the zodiac on the cusp of house 1 in your birth chart. It doesn’t map a dynamic desire-urge, but in many respects, acts like a planet.

The ascendant is unique in that it acts as your grounding wire.

It’s where you connect, and exchange energy through your electromagnetic body and its forces, with your immediate (local) environment.

The activity of the group of thought-cells mapped by your ascendant has much significance over your health and how your personality affects others who are brought directly into contact with you.

Its importance is only exceeded by the positions of the Sun and the Moon. The Sun rules your individuality, the Moon rules your mentality, and the ascendant rules your personality.

Your personality is explained by your ascendant sign and its aspect structure. You have good and bad personality trats.

Your personality

Your personality is the sum total of your observable behavior. It’s what other people see. It indicates your approach when dealing with people and plays an important role in your face-to-face relations.

Your personality is your habitual manner of activity. It’s a set of traits embracing attitude, motive, ability, likes and dislikes that are enduring and easily observed.

You can learn a lot about yourself and your likes and dislikes from your ascendant sign.

It indicates your personality type and according to its harmony or discord you’ll express constructive or destructive personality traits.

The group of thought-cells mapped by your ascendant is a receiving set for the astral energies radiated by your ascendant sign.

Aspects to your ascendant

The ascendant in your birth chart is all about your personality, health and personal affairs and its aspects map thought-compounds aka states of consciousness built by experiences in your soul’s evolutionary past where these life matters were its chief focus.

They’re permanent thought-compounds aka stellar aerials that remain throughout your life until changed by personal initiative and the application of mental alchemy.

Your personality expresses thoughts, feelings and impulses aka astral energy and the planets in your chart that aspect the ascendant and their house positions map behaviors, activities and life-matters that can influence your personality, health and personal affairs.

A harmonious aspect maps a thought-compound that works to benefit your personality and health; and a discordant aspect maps a thought-compound that inclines towards personality and health difficulties.

A high-discord aspect can map a serious health problem.

The life-matters associated with the house where a planet forming a harmonious aspect to the ascendant is located incline towards fortunate, stress-free progress.

The house where a planet forming a discordant aspect is located maps life-matters that incline towards distress and difficulty.

Your ascendant is negative in the sense that it picks up the astral frequencies of any planet it aspects. If a positive planet – the Sun, Mars, Jupiter or positive Pluto – aspects your ascendant your personality picks up and expresses its positive astral frequencies as personality traits; but if a negative planet – the Moon, Venus, Saturn, Neptune or negative Pluto – aspects your ascendant your personality picks up and expresses its negative astral frequencies as personality traits.

What you should know about your ascendant

You should know the relative power and functional status of your ascendant.

If it’s prominent your personality, health and personal affairs will feature in your life story.

Your ascendant can be harmonious or discordant. If it’s harmonious your personality is inclined to express its better (sign) qualities. If it’s discordant you’re inclined to express its worse qualities.

If it has a harmony score, which won’t be absolute, your personality, health and personal affairs are inclined to progress favorably.

You should know the planets that form harmonious aspects to your ascendant.

A harmonious trine or sextile maps a functional thought-cell compound that works to attract good health and success with your personal affairs. It inclines towards appearance satisfaction. You’re inclined to express the aspecting planet’s constructive traits and its house position maps life-matters that are inclined to progress favorably.

If your ascendant has a discord score, which won’t be absolute, you’re inclined to attract personality and health difficulties.

You should know the planets that form discordant aspects to your ascendant.

The type of personality-health problem you’re inclined to experience is determined by the aspects to the ascendant in your birth chart.

A discordant opposition, square, sesquisquare or semisquare maps a dysfunctional thought-cell compound that is working to harm your health and personal affairs. It inclines towards appearance dissatisfaction. You’re inclined to express the aspecting planet’s destructive traits and its house position maps life-matters that incline towards distress and difficulty.

Progressed aspects involving your birth chart or progressed ascendant are temporary thought-compounds that time when major events involving your personality, personal affairs and health are inclined to occur.

The things or people indicated by the aspecting planet affect your health and personality and bring change with your personal life.

Special note

The degree on your ascendant maps a heavy line running across your astral body which can be seen clairvoyantly. It’s not only an astral line, but a line of electromagnetic energy through which the whole astral body is grounded.

Your astral body is grounded, and connected with your immediate physical environment, through the electromagnetic radiations of your physical body.

This means that any energy that reaches the outside world through personal contact must express itself through your personality.

This ground-wire influence of your personality, therefore, only reaches as far as your electromagnetic emanations flow.

When the birth time is not known, if the heavy line denoting the ascendant can be seen, the proper ascendant can be determined.

Your true birth time is the moment you took your first independent breath and a chart calculated for the second, minute and hour this occurred will have the correct sign, degree and minute on the ascendant in accordance with the heavy line marking its position in your astral body.

The time recorded on your birth certificate has been rounded off so there will be slight difference between the degree and minute on the ascendant of the chart calculated for this time and the ascendant of a chart calculated for your unknown true time of birth.

You can apply knowledge pertaining to the ascendant and real-life experience to determine the accuracy of the ascendant in your chart and, if necessary, make slight plus or minus adjustments to the minutes indicated.

This procedure fine-tunes your birth time and the minutes on all the house cusps so caution is needed: And if you’re confident that your birth time is close to accurate you should stick with it and the ascendant it calculates.
