‘The real devil is your egotism, selfishness and self-centeredness. It’s only when you first realize that you are because you have a divine mission to perform and that you must get on the giving side of life instead of the getting side that the first rays of the spiritual Sun can illuminate your consciousness and the mysteries of the inner sanctum of your soul become visible.’ Edward Doane.
If love is the most overused word in the English language, then spirituality is the least understood.
Making sense of what it means isn’t easy but a growing interest in spirituality is one of the most striking aspects of contemporary Western culture.
Past civilizations have viewed spirituality in their own unique way and today it’s viewed as a subjective experience that puts the emphasis on the deepest values and meanings by which a person lives. It’s even defined as an individual’s search for ultimate, or sacred, meaning and purpose aka religious experience.
It’s become an important academic subject and there are spirituality journals and internet courses where increasing numbers of people are exploring a diversity of spiritual experiences in both traditional and nontraditional contexts.
Spiritual teachers teach spirituality: personal growth, interconnectedness, mindfulness, and the search for meaning beyond material existence.
Spirituality is often associated with mysticism, theology and esoteric religion. In India spiritual tourism – visiting religious sites and shrines – is booming.
Places are described as spiritual and spiritual giants are individuals who establish religious movements and teachings.
Things have changed since spirituality was a simple belief in a supernatural realm or afterlife; and a spiritualist was someone who served as an intermediary between the living and the dead or who was connected with spiritualism.
In the 1970s spirituality was associated with crystals, mystical astrology and human reincarnation. Neptune was having the most fun.
In 2026 spirituality is the word.
It’s closely associated with religion and you probably had what is called a religious-spiritual upbringing. Christian spirituality and Buddhist spirituality both emphasize the spiritual aspects of being and living.
Christian spirituality
Christian spirituality teaches you to love your neighbor as you love yourself and to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In 2026 it’s very popular amongst the young and often intelligent who find the answer to their quest for meaning in its practices.
Feeding the hungry and healing the sick are acts of true spirituality but the Ten Commandments are ten thou shalt not guidelines for living.
There are many things you should not do, including those prohibited by the Ten Commandments, but it’s bad psychology to place the emphasis on the don’ts. It keeps your attention focused on these forbidden actions, vitalizing their mental images and draining energy away from mental images which prompt you to do spiritual acts.
You won’t become spiritual by refraining from doing things. You become spiritual by what you do. And if you keep your attention on truly spiritual things, and use your energy up in spiritual actions, you are not apt to be tempted toward ignoble deeds; for temptation only arises from mental images which become insistent because of the energy they require.
The world will not become a better place in which to live because of those who obey the Ten Commandments. It will become a better place through the intelligent efforts of people who do things.
Buddhist spirituality
Buddhist spirituality combines ancient traditions with modern practices and is popular with those who find meaning in new age spiritualism.
Awakened Academy, the international spiritual life coach training, certification and sacred online business academy for empathic, spiritual souls, reckons the signs of spirituality are:
Feeling peace with meditation and other mindful practices; Feeling compassionate and positive; Asking questions about life and death; Finding meaning and purpose in life; Being hopeful when things are challenging; Believing that life is sacred and should be embraced; Having a greater level of empathy and intuition; Feeling at peace when being alone; Feeling connected with your soul; Having a strong sense of self-worth; Believing that life is sacred and should be embraced and; Being in the present moment.
Awakened Academy’s mission is to restore Dharma to the world.
Dhrama is a fundamental concept of Buddhism, Hinduism and yoga. It refers to the moral law and principles that govern conduct and the universe. In Buddhism it refers to the teachings of Buddha and the true nature of reality. In Hindu philosophy it signifies righteousness, duty and cosmic order.
Buddhism teaches rebirth and the concept of anatta which denies the existence of a permanent, unchanging self or soul.
Hinduism teaches human reincarnation which implies the existence of a soul that moves from one body to another after death.
In new age of spirituality Lower-Pluto’s disinformation runs deep. Its negativity encourages passive living; and its teaching of human reincarnation is the greatest inversion of a universal truth and its greatest deception.
In 1889 T H Burgoyne in Light of Egypt warned: ‘... these inversive brethren achieved the greatest theological and metaphysical success in the relaunching forth, throughout the world, of the doctrines of reincarnation, karma and disembodied shells, as formulated and taught be the decaying priesthoods of the dreamy Orient. Viewed in its true light, this gigantic movement of the inversive brethren was aimed as a deathblow to the rapidly spreading spiritualism of the Occident...’
With every human soul reincarnating on the Earth plane the astral and spirit planes are lifeless. There’s no one there for the mediums and psychics to contact! but if you can read the Book of Nature correctly, you’ll see the truth of the matter plainly visible.
Your life is a journey. Through progressive experience your soul is expanding its consciousness and when it acquired enough intelligence and ability it incarnated as a human soul and was rewarded with self-consciousness. There’s been no repetition, no sin and no retribution. Just progressive development through experience.
The pain you feel is your soul’s misguided thought-cell response to painful experience. You’re not being punished, your being educated; and with more experience you’ll take action and mend the discordant thought-cell activity that’s causing the pain you feel.
And when your earthly life is done, your soul will continue to expand its consciousness: eternally progressing in the glorious vistas of higher astral and spiritual realms.
What is spirituality?
The Concise Oxford Dictionary simply states: ‘Spiritual: having the higher qualities of the mind. Spirituality: having a spiritual quality. Spiritualize: to elevate your thoughts and character.’
Hermetic astrology teaches there are two types.
There’s the negative feeling type ruled by Neptune which has a belief in a spiritual afterlife and indulges in so-called spiritual feelings that are beautiful, even ecstatic. They incline towards lazy (negative) self-indulgence and prompt fanciful notions of moral superiority.
And there’s the positive feeling type ruled by Pluto which expresses a positive response to take action and do something worthwhile. It produces a positive selfless mood that desires to contribute to the welfare of others.
