It began on January 1 with Kim announcing his intention to launch a long-range ballistic missile (Mars) capable of reaching the United States and President-elect Donald Trump tweeting: ‘It won’t happen!’
Kim remained mostly quiet for weeks, then on February 13 his military launched a solid-fuel missile (Mars), a device that is easy to deploy and conceal from enemies. The following day Kim’s half-brother, Jong Nam, was assassinated at Kuala Lumpur airport.
Tensions began to rise and the missiles continued to fly. A month later, the North Koreans test-launched four at once, three of which traveled 600 miles into the Sea of Japan.
On July 4 North Korea launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile (Mars). It flew on a steep trajectory more than 1,700 miles into the space, for about 40 minutes, and landed in the waters east of the peninsula.
A few weeks later, the nation launched another ICBM that soared higher, flew longer and traveled farther. Experts believed the missile could have reached Hawaii and Alaska and the Trump-Kim rhetorical battle (Mercury-Mars) began in earnest.
In response to the tests the United Nations adopted a new round of economic sanctions and Trump boasted that the country might be met with ‘fire and fury.’ North Korea then suggested that it might target Guam with an ‘encircling strike’ to test its missiles and Guamanians braced for the worst, but Kim backed off the threat.

On September 19, 2017 Trump spoke to the United Nations saying he would ‘totally destroy’ North Korea if it threatened the United States. Kim responded that ‘a frightened dog barks louder’ and called Trump a ‘mentally deranged dotard.’
Trump and Kim continued to engage in childish rhetorical battles (Mercury-Mars) and then the North Korean administration went largely quiet. Some hoped that tensions might have cooled, but in late November, the North Korean government launched its most-powerful intercontinental ballistic missile (Mars) yet, a device capable of reaching Washington, DC.
And the North Korea Mercury-Mars crisis ended. North Korea had the capability to deliver a nuclear weapon (Mars) to the United States. It established regime security. It meant that a US nuclear attack on North Korea was extremely unlikely. And North Korea continues to produce and test nuclear weapons.

And throughout 2027 Donald Trump – the world’s greatest strife magnet – will again be dealing with a major international crisis most likely involving Iran. The country wants nuclear weapons and has a choke hold on the world economy.
