As you set out to correct character defects and build a spiritual body there are two main points to keep in mind. One is that your purpose and possibility are mapped in your birth chart and the other is that a spiritual alchemist working with astrological knowledge welcomes each progressed aspect.
You should recognize that progressed square and opposition aspects are opportunities for demonstrating and building strength of character through experiences that contribute greatly to your spiritual progress.
These obstacles and separations when viewed from the cosmic angle represent life lessons you most need. Each experience is a metal of life, which if operated upon in the proper manner profoundly affects your spiritual body and frees you from the limitations imposed by the temporary environment of physical existence.
The ores of all the metals of life are ready at hand and procuring them means nothing more than gaining sufficient experience in each department of life to transmute the metals gained into imperishable spiritual gold.
Monitor progress, learn and make change

Checking your progress to determine how well you are doing involves the constant study of your birth and progressed charts and the assessment of your own reactions under the mental stimuli of the various urges as the forming progressed aspects brings a new kind of metal or experience.
If you manifest self-interest above all else under a progressed aspect involving Saturn you have not accomplished much transmutation of your lead; and if conceit comes to the fore under a Jupiter progression your tin is tarnished.
You must realize that the transmutation of the metals of life into spiritual gold cannot be accomplished without making changes; and these changes, to put it quite simply, are changes in your habitual manner of thinking, feeling and acting.
You should view the process of transmutation as mounting the steps of a ladder.
As you leave a lower step for one higher up, you must leave behind the things associated with that step. And as you mount each succeeding step you must leave the one below. So, you cannot hang onto a method of thinking, feeling and acting that corresponds to tarnished metals and hope to gain the heights symbolized by spiritual gold.
It is inevitable that you must gain new perceptions and leave old ones behind if you hope to adapt to the conditions of a higher life.
In your physical life here on Earth you’re paid in terms of money and the things it can buy but Cosmos rewards you in terms of soul progression as you act upon and react to the experiences that constitute the metals of the spiritual alchemist.
The jewels of your soul are not the riches and treasures of the material world but the riches of a healthy spiritual body, built by your own attitudes toward the affairs of everyday life.
It becomes necessary to learn to think in cosmic terms: of things as important as affecting universal welfare and not in terms of self and of things as important as affecting self.
Your Ego and soul only exist because Cosmos has need of them as component working parts. As an individual of the Earth plane you are permitted to have experiences. They are tools furnished by nature which you can work with and by their usage you can make or break the bank of your soul or spiritual body.
You cannot hide away. You must have contact with your fellow travelers and do good.
The experiences of life that nourish and expand your immortal soul, if you operate upon them in the correct manner, are within your reach. They are found on the highways and byways of everyday life.
Soul expansion
Your birth chart is a map of your soul-self. It reveals your potential to experience soul expansion through events and conditions involving each department of life; and the conditions under which you can mount the ladder of attainment.
As your limited conception of Deity expands with diligent application to the problems of soul expansion, you’ll see that the Supreme Builder is unlimited and the Divine Whole, the pattern of Cosmos, will gradually unfold to your wider sight.
And as you change habits of thinking, feeling and action from those that have to do with the tarnished metals and the dross of life, and begin to view their true value as the effect upon your soul, you’ll progress toward freedom of limitation of material conditions because of your new views, not because someone has given you something without effort.
The whole process of transmutation is one of changing old ways of thinking, feeling and acting for those which conform to the cosmic view point. You can’t continue in selfishness and disregard the welfare of humanity as a whole and make any progress with transmutation.
Let those who exploit child labor and those who live according to the gospel of financial prosperity give thought to what they are building into themselves. The laws of nature are the laws of God and every member of cosmos attracts in the afterlife a condition that matches their character in every detail.
Don’t be so foolish as to think you can pull Deity down to your level. You have the glorious privilege of lifting yourself up by transmuting the experiences of your everyday life into spiritual gold. You don’t have the privilege of shrinking Deity up to correspond with selfishness and disregard for the status of others.
Everyone has a role to play
Everyone has a part to play in the cosmic scheme. The politician, the manufacturer of automobiles and the potato farmer. From the cosmic angle each performs a necessary function. And if each works constructively to benefit society they are transmuting base metals into spiritual gold.
All workers in the divine plan of cosmic construction are progressing to fill a needed function and you cannot say that one type of work is more important than any other type. There is no room in the mental equipment of the spiritual alchemist for a holier than thou attitude.
The mills of the Gods grind exceeding small and to each is given exact payment for service rendered. No payment is given to those who fail to render service. The process of lifting up isn’t done by dodging issues. It isn’t accomplished by sitting in a rocking chair with the hands together, too lazy to move and saying, ‘Yes, I believe.’
It’s done by going into action, recognizing that faith in God is a dynamic force and non-stop perseverance in the transmutation of the metals of your everyday experiences into spiritual gold.
The biblical expression: ‘Ye blow neither hot nor cold; therefore, I spew thee out of my mouth’ carries the message of action. It’s telling you that hot aggressive action in the service of humanity is necessary to procure spiritual gold.
Do not believe these words I have written. Unless they are proven to be true in the laboratory of life, they are worthless.
