Mental alchemy is the practice of changing thoughts and feelings into a higher, more elevated mode of expression. The golden emotion is spirituality and going for gold requires self-understanding, training and practice.
Knowledge regarding the importance of your mental, emotional and spiritual development may have encouraged you to actively pursue the practice mental-spiritual alchemy but you need to keep in mind that you’re a novice and it will probably take a long period of existence on the inner-planes before you’ll experience the higher spiritual frequencies of cosmic consciousness.
Very few souls have come in contact with the teachings of alchemy, as presented by the Church of Light, and fewer still have expanded their self-consciousness to a vibratory level that approaches the boundaries of the spectrum of cosmic consciousness that makes them capable of realizing the importance of the teachings.
The ancients taught that the attainment of a higher type of spirituality culminates in adeptship. It describes an individual who has attained unusual powers and abilities, a higher type of spirituality and a more comprehensive knowledge of life which they use to assist in the furtherance of God’s Great Plan.
But in occult circles today it is commonly used to describe past and present seers and mediums who may, or may not, have transmuted their ability, wisdom and power into earnest desire dedicated to contributing their utmost to cosmic welfare. There are no true adepts on Earth today.
In order to accomplish self-mastery and build spiritual qualities without wasting time and energy you need to realize that attention focuses your mind. And that your thoughts, feelings and emotions are associated with pleasure and pain aka conditioning energy and they’re either building up or tearing down your spiritual qualities which determine your character, future events and destiny now and in the future.
Get self-understanding
You need to know that when it comes to the practice of mental alchemy that it’s the quality of your self-understanding that counts.
You need to realize that the reality of the events and conditions your experience is your mental reaction. Events and conditions are pleasure and pain neutral until your mind or soul reacts. So, it’s your attitude which determines if you extract something of value from any experience.
If you desire to develop spiritual values or even contact spiritual realms you can only do it through your mind. Mercury – the messenger of the gods – is pictured with wings on his feet (symbol of understanding) to depict this all-important function of mind.
All awareness is mental consciousness and your consciousness results from your attitudes towards events and conditions. Your mental attitude determines if you are feeding your soul nourishing spiritual food or poison.

Behavior emerges from a consciousness that may or may not have much spirituality. This noble emotion is devoted to the welfare of others and whatever spiritual qualities exist remain a potential until developed through persistent practice. And while self-interest remains in the driver’s seat the selfish soul makes no spiritual progress.
You have the right to run and control your own life in a way you see fit, but you have no right to exercise power and impose your will on others in a way that is destructive, abusive and undemocratic. Blaming behavior is a sure sign of emotional immaturity and spiritual bankruptcy.
Going for Gold
The ancient spiritual alchemists recognized seven common metals: silver, lead, tin, quicksilver, iron, copper and gold. And the symbols they used to identify these metals were the astrological symbols used for the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Venus and Sun. So, each of the seven metals in alchemy are related to the seven lower octave planets of astrology.
The spiritual alchemists were focused on analyzing the experiences related to each of the base metals with the view to determining the effect they had in shaping and building their spiritual natures.
