Cetus the whale monster of repression

Cetus, the 4th largest constellation, depicts the third decanate of Aquarius and in January 1881 when the equinox backed into Aquarius humanity came under its discordant influence.

First catalogued by Ptolemy in the early 2nd century Cetus is easy to recognize as it resembles the outline of a whale or sea monster which provides symbolic insight into its special type of influence.

In Greek mythology Cetus – a whale-like sea monster – was sent by the sea god Poseidon to terrorize and wreak havoc on the kingdom of ancient Aethiopia as retribution for the boastful behavior of its queen, Cassiopeia.

It was a crisis situation for the country and to find a solution King Cepheus consulted an oracle who instructed him to sacrifice his daughter Andromeda (the human soul) to the sea monster (materialism, fear and brutal discord) so he had her chained to a rock to be killed.

Fortunately, before the depraved sacrifice took place, Perseus – knight errant of the zodiac and the personification of enlightenment – who had just slain and beheaded the serpent-haired monster Medusa – the personification of greed and selfishness – flew by on the winged horse, Pegasus, and saved Princess Andromeda just as Cetus was rising from the water to devour her.

The myth goes that when Perseus showed Cetus the fearsome face of Medusa the sea monster turned to stone although classical sources say he killed Cetus with his magical sword. Whatever, Perseus and Andromeda fell in love and married.

Hermetic astrology teaches that Cetus symbolizes many types of discord and that the struggle to overcome it will be a significant feature of the Aquarian Age from 1881 to 2597.

It teaches that the sea monster’s discord expresses as the loveless marriage, social isolation, unbalanced living, mental health problems, social and income inequality, racial prejudice, persecution, repression and atheistic materialism.

It expresses as the repression of truth by dictators, autocrats, academic authoritarians, atheistic materialists, ultra-conservative stone-age thinkers, dangerous know-it-alls who don’t know what they’re talking about and other prejudiced bigots.

It expresses as scholastic arrogance and pride; atheistic science and the false teachings that chain unsuspecting human souls to the rock of materialism; and new age movers and shakers whose misguided prejudice shapes the world.

When its anti-God advocates occupy powerful positions in politics, education and the media its influence becomes tremendously destructive.

Cetus, the whale monster, symbolizes the cost in human suffering inflicted by special privilege; and the desire by those in positions of power to acquire new and greater weapons of destruction.

It assaults the better angels in your soul with vulgarity, hate and coarseness.

Hermetic astrology teaches that Cetus is the decanate of repression.

Its influence is observed globally in repressive regimes like China, Russia, North Korea and Saudi Arabia where millions of people have their desire for freedom repressed by spiritually bankrupt rulers.

People in Shanghai, China, during the covid pandemic people were subject to drones with loudspeakers telling them to ‘repress your soul’s yearning for freedom’.

And its influence is observed personally in those people (with retrograde planets in their birth charts) who exclude painful thoughts, feelings, impulses and memories from their objective awareness by keeping them repressed aka dammed or locked up in their unconscious minds.

Hermetic astrology teaches that humanity will experience the discord scripted by the constellation Cetus for approximately 716 years – from 1881 to 2597 and that it’s a perilous phase in the Age of Aquarius.

But, as indicated in the Greek myth, a modern Perseus will arrive to enlighten humanity with liberating spiritual truths. And eventually special privilege of all kinds will be eradicated and every human soul will be considered equal under the law with equal human and economic rights.
