Elizabeth Lynne Cheney became an attorney and politician.
She’s the daughter of former US Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney.
In 2017 she was elected as the US Representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district; and from 2019-2021 she was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs in the George W Bush administration and was the Chair of the House Republican Conference, the third-highest position in the House Republican leadership.
Cheney is a neoconservative known for her focus on national security (Saturn).
On February 6, 2021 Cheney was censured by the Wyoming Republican Party for her vote to impeach Donald Trump but she rejected the Wyoming party’s demands that she step down. She responded: ‘My vote to impeach was compelled by the oath I swore to the Constitution. Wyoming citizens know that this oath does not bend or yield to politics or partisanship. I will always fight for Wyoming values and stand up for our Western way of life.’
Cheney remained conference chair until mid-May, when she was removed from her position. She said: ‘I will do everything I can to ensure that [Trump] never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office’ and ‘we cannot let the former president drag us backward and make us complicit in his efforts to unravel our democracy.’
Cheney is a United Methodist. She is married to Phillip Perry, a lobbyist with Latham & Watkins. They have five children.
