His story
Gavin Newsom was born into wealth and privilege and a well-connected San Fansicso family. His parents divorced when he was 3. His father, a state of appeals court judge, taught him everything he knows about being an activist (Uranus) and fighting (Mars is in house 4) for what he believes is right.
After earning a degree in political science at Santa Clara University, Newsom became an entrepreneur and started his first business aged 25.
He established PlumpJack Associates, a wine shop, with billionaire oil heir William Getty. Their fathers were close friends. The wine venture eventually spanned several businesses, including boutique hotels, wineries, bars and restaurants. Within a decade, Newsom had gone from cash strapped entrepreneur to a millionaire.
He was well connected through his family and business associates and pivoted from the world of business to politics, taking up a position with California Democratic power broker Willie Brown before he was appointed to the city’s Parking and Traffic Commission.
At 36, he became San Francisco’s youngest mayor in a century.
